Shell Abstracts
Posted: November 26, 2016 Filed under: Abstract, macro, Nature, photography, Uncategorized | Tags: abstract, art, creativity, macro, photography, shells 7 CommentsA few pics of my adventures into my shell macro world :
Technically, getting the focus right in macro is always a bit tricky [ I’m still learning what my lens can do] and I know that really patient photographers do ‘focus stacking’ – taking many shots with different focal points and then merging them into one whole with everything sharp. However – I haven’t got that sort of concentration , not to mention the acquired back-ache from sitting too long at pc plus I’m useless with Layers. But, on the other hand, I’m quite happy to have one spot in the image sharp[ish] with the softer areas leaving a bit ‘mystery’. Normally, to get everything in focus I would use a higher f number but when using my macro lens – the higher the number, the more temperamental the camera gets. Well- that’s the end of my excuses folks….
Hope to see you again tomorrow …. Eileen
Pearlised Shells

Not living by the sea-side or in an otherwise exotic place , I have to buy mine from shops. As these are invariably located at the sea-side too, there’s not much chance of me adding to my collection. Of course I can shop on line for them, but it’s never quite the same as seeing them in the flesh is it?
I’m hankering after a large nautilus shell -pearlised or skeletonised. For years I had a really beautiful one but one day when I was setting it up for a still life, I dropped it! [I’m sure I’ve mentioned this on my blog before] anyway – it broke my heart, but I decided to ask my son to have a go at ‘skeletonising’ what was left of it – and guess what? It got dropped again and that was the end of another bright idea!!!
I’ve seen them for sale on line but so far haven’t ordered one , partly because they are soooo expensive now and partly, again, it’s best to see what you’re buying methinks …. hmm – Christmas is coming ….
Anyway – here are some post-processed offerings :
Back again tomorrow – I seem to have a back -log of quite a few pics to upload. You know the old saying about waiting for a bus don’t you? God bless, Eileen
Pearls
Posted: October 27, 2015 Filed under: digital, Nature, photography, Still Life | Tags: digital, nature, Pearls, photography, shells 2 CommentsDecided to go high key as well as minimalist with these beautiful shells, then did a few variations in my PSP software. I had a lovely pearlised nautilus shell until I dropped it on the floor the last time I used it in a still life. I was heart-broken … so I’m on the look-out for a replacement. What a shame I don’t live at the seaside. I will have to buy on line I guess but it’s not the same as seeing it in real life is it? Anyway – I hope you like these pics.
Well – this is going to be another very short post, but maybe that’s a good thing!
Hope ya’ll have a good day, many blessings, Eileen
