Time to Catch Up

A Cup of Muscari

I’m a bit fed up with myself today and it occurred to me I should catch up on my photo posts. I spend quite a lot of my time on Flick’r now and ‘age’ doesn’t allow me the same concentration that I used to enjoy , so I’m afraid my Blog has suffered a bit of un-intended neglect !

I hope these pics will compensate for that …

Thankfully my love for taking photographs hasn’t waned and I’m still keen to try to make little works of art, although it seems a little presumptive to assume that other people will enjoy looking at them! Still – I can indulge myself here and from past experience I’ve found everyone really friendly and encouraging, and that’s been a real blessing.

A Petite Still Life
I have a collection of small cups and saucers and this set seem to suit the lovely Muscari that suddenly showed their faces in my equally petite patio garden.

Corylus Contorta

Also making an appearance are these lovely catkins . The shrub is commonly known as Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick because of it’s twisted branches, which are seen at their best in winter and spring. Unfortunately, in the summer time, the leaves are also contorted, so it looks as though it has some terrible disease!!

These tulips are not growing in my garden – they are just a bunch I bought. I placed them in a vase in front of the brightly sun-lit patio window ….

Mackintosh Tulip

Same tulip, different setting. I really enjoy Still Life photography and trying to harmonise the subject within it’s setting. The tulip doesn’t strike me as a particularly ‘delicate’ flower, so I think it can take bold treatment …. not to everyone’s taste of course, but then not everyone is a ‘Still Life’ fan either. But for me it’s a life-saver when getting out and about is difficult.

Macintosh Rose

Part of the joy of Still Life are the beautiful ‘props’ that you accumulate. I’ve had three ‘Macintosh’ style mugs for years but never photographed them before. I added a soft glow effect in my PSP which I though suited it very well…..

See you again soon I hope, Eileen

Catching Up(again)

Yet again I find myself having to catch up with my postings here as I’ve been somewhat distracted with other things. Fortunately [for me, not necessarily you] I haven’t neglected my photography because that is the thing that keeps me happy and sane , together with the good Lord’s gracious care of me….

So, this will be a miscellany of images – hope it doesn’t all seem too disjointed!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It was only after I peered at this flower through my macro lens that I saw this tiny caterpillar popping his head in and out! The flower is a small Jacob’s Ladder.

I enjoy photographing flowers more and more these days and often wish i could get to grips with using ‘Textures’ to enhance the backgrounds. Meanwhile I’m using the usual depth of field of my lenses to achieve, or try to, a softer background and sometimes the much sought after ‘Bokeh’. I haven’t a mathematical brain and age has brought with it less stamina and patience to make the required effort to achieve what I really want – but, c’est la vie ! It was much simpler when I used to paint – no tech involved!

This was shot against the light from the window in my living room – it’s south-facing and can get extremely bright. I like the bright dazzle of a high key picture though.

Another sparkly ….

2f soft Yellow Chrysanth

I loved the soft yellow of this Chrysanthemum ….

Take care everyone,   see you soon,   Eileen

Tulips and Other Flowers

I like the drama of a black background, it seems to make the colours more vibrant …. the light is just from a small window.

That’s all for now folks, thank you for your visits and ‘likes’ – they are much appreciated. See you again soon I hope,  Eileen

Love-in-a-Mist

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFor some reason or other my energy levels seem to have taken an upward turn recently – maybe it’s the effect of the lovely sunshine we’ve been having or the fact that my frequent ailments seem to have spent themselves for a while  …. not only that – the garden has suddenly come to life with poppies and roses and has inspired my hobby!

However – I’ve chosen to entertain ya’ll with pics of a wild flower I spotted on the other side of my fence. I think it’s  Love-in-a-mist but p’raps someone could enlighten me?

Shades of White

This is my second attempt at posting this – very frustrating as I’d done the whole thing and even posted it, but there was a long, long blank insert on it that I couldn’t get rid of. So I had to delete it all …. apologies to anyone who’d already viewed it!!  Let’s hope this one will be successful cos I might just go out and shoot myself !

I really like doing white on white, high key pics – especially as I seem to have accumulated a collection of white ‘objects d’Art’ – posh word for bric-a-brac ! Actually, some pieces are really nice ….  this little lady was a recent birthday pressy  and the cup and saucer are Coalport ‘Country Ware’.

Still Life with SwanDeer and Teacup 2

It’s gawn ‘n put ’em in the wrong order now!!  The Deer pics are supposed to follow each other and the Swan with border should’ve been 3rd – grrrr   Ne’ mind eh?  Lol !

Birthday Flowers

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Well, would you believe it – I celebrated my 80th Birthday recently ! I have very mixed feelings about that …. but I had some truly lovely gifts and lots of flowers. Flowers, for me, are not something to simply leave in a vase  – I love to let myself loose with my camera on them. Macro photography comes into its own and I also get trigger-happy with my little water spray bottle …. so here are a few resulting pics :

I hope to post more tomorrow – Mother’s Day flowers have arrived too! Lol….

Catching Up

I must admit I was quite shocked to see how many months have gone by since I last posted here – so now I must catch up and will start with some Hawthorn blossom.

I went over to the Pond last week , but it was very cold and very lean pickings for any water birds etc. The saving grace were lots of blossoms on the many Hawthorn trees around. They were actually all white but I fancied doing something different with them and discovered a set of ‘Retro’ effects in my PSP that I haven’t used before. I was pleased with the lovely pink colours and that it harmonised the background colours too….

I bought myself some tulips – I love their sculptural qualities and strong colours. The black background suited them very well I thought.

Other tools I haven’t really used are the Dodge and the Smudge Brushes. I really enjoyed using them to get these blending , softening effects.

I will endeavour to post again soon.   blessings,  Eileen
